'Procedure for Obtaining a Driving Licence'

Hey all,  Sorry for not writing on the blog for the past month. Had been busy planning for more upcoming activities for iDrive and her friends.

Believe that those who have logged onto our E-learning site will already know that the 100 Final Theory Mock Exam is ready! Pls go ahead and test yourself on those theory questions.

And all to note, for registration onto our website, pls avoid using yahoo email to register.  Apparently, there are some problems with yahoo registration, which my IT team is still trying their best to solve.

Most importantly, I have been getting enquiries from students, asking on the procedures in obtaining a driving licence. To assist all of you, I have included a link to the Singapore Traffic Police webpage: Learning to Drive . Hope this will guide most of you on how you can proceed to get a driving licence.

iDrive has also recently launched our Refer-A-Friend Program. We sincerely hope that you can introduce our services to your friends. To thank you, we will be giving out cash rewards. To know more, pls click here: Refer-A-Friend Program .

'Thanks for the support'

Just wish to say that I am very pleased to see the increasing number of viewers and registered users of our new website. Thanks to all of you who have visited our website. We will continue to improve our services to serve our users, not forgetting our enrolled students. Currently, we are working on the 'iDrive Listing' Project, hoping that soon, all of you can access most, if not all information related to driving services on our website. At the same time, we are creating a separate site for our enrolled students. With this separate site, our enrolled students will enjoy many more benefits like tips for driving test, practical test sheet, and of course more basic and advanced theory questions.

I will also love to see you giving us suggestions on how to improve our service. Pls feel free to email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   if you wish to see anything on our website. We would love to work on something which will fulfil our viewers/students' needs.  In addition, I hope that all viewers of our website can help to vote for the most important factor for consideration when you have different driving schools to choose from. This is very important when we position iDrive to cater to your requirements and to make your driivng journey more 'stress-free'.

Again, great thanks to you.. and hope we will continue to gain your support... and we will continue to work hard too.

'Occupational Therapy in Singapore'

iDrive has recently made a small donation to support occupational therapy in Singapore. Though this donation is only in hundreds, I sincerely felt that it is very purposeful.

Why did we choose Occupational Therapy Association (OTA)?  The main prompt came after realising the important function of OTA:

Occupational Therapy aims to return patients to a desired level of functioning in work, self-care, play and leisure through the use of purposeful activities and a variety of therapeutic modalities. Rehabilitation services in occupational therapy starts with the assessment of the patients’ rehabilitation needs, planning and implementation of treatment, regular evaluation of progress, and ends with thorough discharge planning.

Taking people who drive to make a living, eg: taxi drivers, driving instructors,as an example, they lose their jobs when they suffer from disabilities that take away their capabilities to continue driving. These disabilities are at times very common, eg: partial stroke, arthritis, partial blindness, injuries to limbs, etc. These people can then approach OTA for help.

In fact, we get to know of this association as one of our driving instructors works for OTA. To enure that the drivers whom have recovered from their illnesses could drive safely, they will have to undergo a driving test. This driving instructor will then access if he is ready to drive on the roads.

As a form of appreciation, the publisher of the book 'OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY IN SINGAPORE' has given us an advertisement page:

Thanks to Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists.

'More about Being our Registered User'

Believe many of you are wondering...

'Is registering as a user = enrolling as a student?'

'What benefits are there if you register as a user?'

'How to register as a user?'

First and most importantly, registering as a user just means you will be able to access several services which unregistered public were unable to access, eg: Forum posting, E-learning, etc. As a public user, you can only view the items within the forum but not post questions nor reply to enquiries within the forum.

It is not equal to enrolling as an IDRIVE driving student and NO PAYMENT is required.

As a registered user, you will get to:

- enjoy some of the E-LEARNING (Driving Theory Test) sets of questions.

idrivequiz

- post your questions and comments in FORUM. iDrive will reply to the questions found in the forum.

idriveforum

- create YOUR OWN BLOG whereby you record your driving experience...

idriveblog

- and an iDrive POST OFFICE whereby you can send private messages to all other registered users online. If I am online, you can send private messages to me too. I will answer to the enquiries sent to me.

idrivepostoffice

To register as our website user, click on the 'No account yet? Register'. Fill in the details required and an email will be sent to you shortly. Click on the link in your email to activate your account. Upon activation, you can log in with your chosen user id and password.

'Start Your Engine'

Just read an Article from Asia One Motoring Website brought up by one of our students, titled 'Start Your Engine ' (written by Benson Ang in 2006).

It started off with:

'With Dragon Year babies hitting 18 this year and lower car prices and higher taxi fares, more youth are taking driving lessons.

And if The Sunday Times' straw poll is any indication, it is the private driving instructors, rather than driving centres, who are benefiting from this spike.'

This article mentioned briefly on the issue: Private Driving Instructors vs Driving School Instructors, and have brought up several concerns which, I believe, many students harboured.

eg: cost, systematic lessons, professionalism of instructor...

Well, this is my take on this!

I agree with both views taken by different individuals in the article 'Start your engines'.

There are pros in learning from both private instructors (eg: Flexibility, lower cost, one instructor one car system, etc ) and school instructors (eg: Systematic, professional) and it will be great to combine the pros of both. As far as I am concerned, if there is a governing party for the private instructors to ensure that certain expectations are met, and certain rules and regulations are kept, it will prevent the instructors of having a 'anything goes' attitude. As long as there is a syllabus (in a form of a syllabus/record book) which private instructors/students have to follow, lessons will be more systematic.

At the same time, private instructors can offer the flexibility and convenience in terms of lesson time and booking of slots, not to forget to mention the much lower cost.

Thus this is why a group of us have came together to set up this IDRIVE Driving Centre, which collaborated with Singapore Driving Instructors' Association (the governing body of private driving instructors in Singapore). We have a record book with all the necessary modules/topics which all our students have to master before going for the driving test.

Most importantly, we have an assurance policy. This is because we believe that some students will not be able to ‘click’ well with their instructors, thus have a non-enjoyable learning journey. To solve this potential problem, in any case whereby students are unsatisfied with our instructors, they can come back to us and we will offer them a change of instructor for free.

With these features, I strongly believe that we can eliminate the cons posed by both school and private instructors, and allow students to have a much more fun, easy and enjoyable ‘learning how to drive’ experience.

Hello All iDrive Friends,

A happy new year to you! It's has been a great pleasure hearing the wonderful feedback from our students on our new website. And thanks for all the suggestions provided by our viewers. We have taken on the suggestion of including the links to the test dates of the three driving centres, to make it more convenient for all to view the available test dates. We are also going to include the entire procedure of obtaining a driving licence into our FAQs.

Our 120 Final Theory Questions are up and running. Currently, we are opening this to all registered users. Just register yourself with us on our website and you can try out the questions. We would wish to get as much feedback as possible.

Greatly encourage all to visit our forum regularly and engage in discussions/exchanges in any driving/car related matters. My IT team is trying their best to improve the forum, to beautify the forum interface and to make it more convenient and user friendly for all our users. For those with suggestions for improvement or those with IT forum creation expertise, please do feel free to email us. We really need lots of help in this.

Very proud to introduce our iDrive Classified, a place for all to advertise their cars/car-related products. It's free for all. We strongly believe that it is a great site for selling and purchasing of cars/car-related products, as the majority of our website viewers are potential/future drivers.

So do stay tuned to our latest news.  The next thing coming up will be an exclusive interview with a private driving instructor, Mr. Lau Chai Cheng. He is the president of Singapore Driving Instructor's Association (SDIA), the governing body of private driving instructors in Singapore. We will be addressing some of the common concerns and issues brought up by many students. See what he has to say...

Hello everyone,

First and foremost, I would like to thank all the staff of iDrive Pte. Ltd. who has put in alot of hard work in getting up this new website. It has been alot of hard work (as all of us are almost IT illiterate) trying to work outside our area of specialization. I'm really proud to be able to be part of this project, building our own corporate website from scratch. All of us at iDrive hopes that this new website will be able to further improve our customer service and support to our students and potiential students.

We are also currently working on our E-learning services, where all our students will get our BTT and ATT tests for free. Visitors to this site will also get a glimpse as to what they will get if they sign up as our students. It's an exciting year ahead, and you can trust that everyone at iDrive will continue to work hard in order to bring the best services to YOU. Lastly, I would like to wish iDrive a happy 2 years old birthday in advance. and a big GONG XI FA CAI to all.
